It has been a busy time for the WBF worldwide, but especially in Africa as the continent strives to produce quality world champions for the future.

Years back the names of John Mugabi, Corrie Sanders, Francois Botha, Vic Toweel, Brian Mitchell, Ike Quartey, Dick Tiger and of course the greatest of them all, Azumah Nelson, excited boxing fans around the world.

Sadly, over the past decade or so, Africa has craved for new boxing superstars and has been, with the possible exception of the talented Hekkie Budler, mostly unsuccessful.

Having said that, there is no question of the renewed vigor and determination from several African countries to ensure that the list of African superstars will once again be added to.

I have been to Namibia and Tanzania so far this year, with planned visits and fights for the WBF to take place in Zambia, Egypt, Algeria and Cameroon. Once again there is noticeable excitement on the African continent with regards to producing future champions. Africa has grown tired of sitting back and playing second fiddle to other boxing countries.

One of the fundamental lessons of life is to dream, and to work hard and be committed in the quest to achieve and realize one's dreams. There is an abundance of talent in Africa just waiting to come to the fore and sooner rather than later, I honestly believe that the rest of the boxing world will see just how good fighters in Africa actually are.

On a sad note, the World Boxing Federation conveys its condolences to the family of Shona MacTaggert, who passed away last week. Shona was the iron lady behind the most successful promotional outfit in Africa, namely Rodney Berman's Golden Gloves.

Shona was one of the most efficient, dignified, organized, ethical and principled ladies I have ever met, and tough as teak, but with the kindest and most sincere nature. Intelligent, smart, and knowledgeable with a wonderful sense of humour, Shona will be sorely missed by all. Rest in peace Shona MacTaggert.

Until next time, keep boxing.
