World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Champion Travis “Rattlesnake” Hanshaw, 14-1-1 (7), is a well-known and popular figure in his local community in Ashland, Kentucky.

Not yet so well-known on the world-wide boxing-scene, the 27-year-old is hoping to change that sooner rather than later.

In the third installment of our feature series titled “The Champ”, we offer some miscellaneous insight and information on...The Champ!

- When he was five years old, Travis was bitten by a rattlesnake, hence his nickname.

- Trained at first by his Grandfather and later by his father, Travis compiled an impressive 123-6 amateur record, winning the Kentucky State championships, Ohio State Fair national championships, the Junior Olympic Regional championships and the regional Golden Gloves.

- His father and uncle are both former boxers, and brother Thomas Hanshaw Jr. (33) is an active professional Cruiserweight with a 10-8 (6) record, going by the alias “The Hillbilly”.

- When not boxing, Hanshaw works as a deputy at Boyd County Detention Center. In 2018 he tried to get elected to run the Jail, but didn't win.

- He turned professional in July of 2011, still only nineteen years old and basically a Light Welterweight. He has since boxed inside the weight-limits of Welterweight, Super Welterweight, Middleweight, Super Middleweight, Light Heavyweight and Cruiserweight.

- He won the Kentucky State Welterweight title in his fifth bout, in March of 2012, out-scoring tough journeyman Ruben Galvan (27-21-4).

- While he has boxed on several different promoters shows, his fights have mostly been promoted by his father Tom.

- The only loss on his record came after seven straight victories against Ukrainian 2011 World Amateur Champion and 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist Taras Shelestyuk (3-0 at the time). Fighting as a Super Welterweight, Hanshaw lost on points over four rounds to Shelesyuk, who is currently 16-0 (10).

- Travis is married to Shelby, since 2015, with whom he has a son.

- He has a tattoo across his back that says “Wake Your Dreams”.
