Hot Mexican prospect Jose Enrique Dorantes Vivas wasted little time in picking up his first professional title on Saturday, September 9, in Mexicali when he stopped fellow countryman Alejandro Solis in the second round for the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) North America Featherweight crown.

Vivas came out all guns blazing from the very start, and Solis bravely tried to trade with him but was unable to keep up. While he made it through the first round, it was all over in the second when Vivas floored Solis with some hard shots and referee Juan Jose Ramirez counted him out. Time of stoppage was 2:56.

The new WBF North America Champion from Mexico City improved his unblemished record to 13-0 (8), and sends Solis, who had won his previous five bouts, back to Tijuana at 8-4-1 (5).

A fight for the vacant WBF Mexico Super Bantamweight title between Mexicali-rivals Edgar Ortega and Andres Tapia ended in a draw after ten closely contested rounds. Ortega owned the first half of the fight, while Tapia started taking over from round six as Ortega looked tired in what was his first ten-rounder.

The scores from the three judges were all over the place, as Manuel Rincon scored the fight 97-93 for Tapia, Daniel Lopez had it 99-91 for Ortega and Max Zuniga scored it 95-95. Referee in charge of the action was Jacinto Arambula.

Ortega is now 6-1-2 (2), and Tapia goes to 11-6-3 (4). The show was promoted by Edgar Mendoza and his Cachanilla Promotions.
