It was party-time at the Mlimani City in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, as massively popular Hassan Mwakinyo captured the vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental Super Welterweight title on Friday, August 14, in front of a very loud and energetic crowd.

In the main event of a show promoted by Peak Time Promotions, televised live by Azam Sports, twenty-five year-old Mwakinyo defeated previously undefeated Congolese Tshibangu Kayembe, also twenty-five, by unanimous decision after a competitive and entertaining fight.

The first half of the bout saw both men have an even share of success, and had plenty of two-way action, but as the fight went on Mwakinyo started to take over with more activity and accuracy.

While a very game Kayembe displayed a good jab and landed several hard right hands as Mwakinyo moved back in a straight line, Mwakinyo did more work and was especially effective with his body-shots, followed up by good combinations to the head.

After twelve rounds of boxing, judge Anthony Ruta scored the bout 116-112, while judges Abdallah Neneko and Sakwe Mtulya both scored it 119-109, a score that didn't reflect the competitiveness and entertainment of the fight.

The new WBF Champion improved his professional record to 17-2 (11), extending his current winning-streak to seven in a row, while Kayembe travels back to Kinshasa at 9-1-3 (3).
